About Us

Gardener was originally a brand of the Jon Preserving Company.

Jon Preserving Company then became Berri Fruit Juice.

Spring Gully Foods began its connection with this brand when it contract packed Berri’s Gardener-branded products in the late 80’s early 90’s.

Then, in the mid-1990s, Spring Gully Foods acquired the Gardener brand outright because Berri didn’t want glass jars in their factories and pickled veg didn’t suit their brand.

Gardener was initially comprised of gherkins, pickled onions, sweet mustard pickle, and tomato sauce.

Over the last 10 years the brand has evolved into a jam, gherkin and relishes brand, with our core purpose being to provide simple, delicious, affordable products for Australian families.

A Glimpse Of History

Even though the Gardener brand has remained constant in its mission of providing quality food at affordable prices, some things have changed.

For example, we’d never open an ad with “Mrs Housewife” these days, as was common back at the time when this ad ran in the official brochure of the 1965 Adelaide Hills Apple & Pear Festival, Lenswood.
